The visionary game developer, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in the state of California he was 55 years old.

The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company that he helped create.

The celebrated video game developer passed away following his automobile collided and burst into flames on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
