Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Attack as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences on social media, stating: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a authority informed the Associated Press.

Officers that searched the hotel recovered two firearms and two ammunition clips when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about thousands of bachelor's and three thousand graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in this year, according to records.
