The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
