The Grisly Animated Movie Conclusion That Stays With Audiences
Out of every mature animated films I have ever watched, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled finale of a graphically gory and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, bleak and frequently brutal universe with some tiny , forlorn hints of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a desire to advance the medium further, the director clarified that it was more an attempt to communicate a global, multicultural theme about “the shared root of every conflict.”
That idea is communicated by means of a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a well-known line of cuddly characters.
Maturing in a culture built around aggression as well as the war machine, many of the bears are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that tells them they used to be masters of the forest, until the unicorns drove them out.
Some haven’t fully accepted the propaganda, and would rather experiment with drugs or mate in the forest.
Unlike their gentle counterparts, these bright beings display sexual organs , obvious libidos.
For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the battle against the unicorns turns into a route toward dominance — and especially to dominance over his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , an obvious sociopath , and as horror overcomes his squad and kills his teammates one by one, he takes increasingly control personally, in increasingly gory, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, these mythical beings are enduring their own horror, through a growing, destructive monster in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it evolves into a more serious and sad movie. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars commences similar to among the quirky movies from a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in letting animated figures curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it turns into more akin to a bleaker film by that same creator, featuring progressively graphic violence and a noticeable connection to genuine suffering of war.
In the finale, it’s a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.
The fear which makes the film an ideal spooky-season viewing kicks in much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated fans of gore, for fans of extreme cinema who want to see something they have not watched previously, and are able to withstand a story that offers unflinching brutality.
View it in a dark room without any distractions, and that ending will dig into your mind and stay with you.
