The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
