A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was accosted by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before running away.

The reason behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.

How It Happened

Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the site supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.

Important clues, like cartridges, were found at the location.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to establish their destination," stated a police chief.

His sister, a close relative, said the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"We know he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She appealed to the community to avoid sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local TV network.

Beyond his media career, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including private security, providing high-level security services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in property management and participated in tenant removals.
