Iran Claims Strike on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
