Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
