Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
